NFIB Endorses Sen. Pat Roberts

Date: October 03, 2014

The National Federation of Independent Business, Kansas’ and the nation’s leading small-business association, today endorsed Pat Roberts for U.S. Senate.

NFIB President and CEO Dan Danner said, “Pat Roberts has always been a reliable voice for Main Street, and he’s the clear choice of small business in this election.”

Last month, NFIB honored Roberts as a Guardian of Small Business in recognition of his outstanding support of small business in the 113th Congress. Roberts has earned a 100 NFIB Voting Record so far in the 113th Congress, supporting the small-business community by voting in favor of comprehensive tax reform (S.Amdt. 156) and repealing the estate tax, also known as the “death tax,” which hinders owners from passing their businesses down to their children and grandchildren (S.Amdt. 307).

Roberts also opposed a tax on carbon emissions (S.Amdt. 261), supported construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline in order to help reduce fuel costs for small businesses (S.Amdt. 494) and opposed a 30 percent increase in the federal minimum wage, a measure that would have slowed the state’s and the nation’s recovery from the last recession and discouraged job growth by drastically raising labor costs (S. 2223).

Danner said, “Pat Roberts supports the issues that matter most to our small-business members, which is why we need to send him back to Washington.”

Dan Murray, state director of NFIB/Kansas, said, “Senator Roberts’ support of Kansas’ small-business community has been unwavering.

“Since going to Washington, he has done everything he can to help our members grow and prosper, and I believe he’ll continue standing for small business in the years to come,” Murray said.

NFIB has over 4,000 members in Kansas, representing a cross section of the state’s economy. Roberts’ endorsement comes from NFIB’s Save America’s Free Enterprise Trust (SAFE), the association’s political action committee, and is based on positions regarding key small-business issues including health care, taxes, and labor and regulations.

Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the small-business vote for Roberts in November.
