Bill will require data to be provided to independent auto shops
What it means: The REPAIR Act would eliminate barriers for independent auto repair shops by requiring auto manufacturers to provide relevant repair data to independent auto shops. NFIB sent a letter of support for the bipartisan legislation.
Our take: “The REPAIR Act is a much-needed piece of bipartisan legislation to increase competition in the automotive repair industry and keep money in consumers’ pockets. NFIB represents countless businesses in rural areas that only have local independent vehicle repair or aftermarket parts shops. Without access to an independent vehicle repair shop, consumers will be forced to spend more time away from their own businesses and take more money out of their pockets,” said Andrea McGee, NFIB Principal of Federal Government Relations.”
Take Action: Take action now to ask your representatives to support H.R. 1566, the REPAIR Act, which would stop anticompetitive behavior.
Independently owned auto repair shops need access to vehicle data to make repairs. NFIB sent a letter of support for the bipartisan Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair (REPAIR) Act, H.R. 1566. The proposal would allow independent auto repair shops guaranteed access to the same tools, software, and manuals that manufacturers offer to their authorized service centers.
The REPAIR Act will require auto manufacturers to provide all relevant repair data to independent auto repair shops. Passing this bill will allow independent auto repair shops to have the peace of mind that they will always have access to the necessary repair data needed to fix America’s passenger vehicles.
This REPAIR Act is a crucial step in safeguarding access to vehicle data needed by independently owned auto shops to repair America’s passenger vehicles safely and efficiently. Take action by asking your representatives to support the REPAIR Act and stop anticompetitive behavior.
