Thanksgiving is truly a special day. It was first celebrated in 1621 when the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians shared a fall harvest. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be held each year in November. Since that proclamation, Thanksgiving in the U.S. has been held on the fourth Thursday in November.
Every year in November is the time to reflect on what you are thankful for in your life. Here at NFIB/Texas we are very thankful for our 24,000 NFIB members who help fight the good fight every day for small business in Texas and America. Just like the pilgrims of yesterday, small business owners are fighters and survivors. They work hard every day to build their business, provide for others and make America a better place.
This November we are especially thankful for our 50 plus year member, Blue Bell Creameries. Founded in 1907 in Brenham, Texas, Blue Bell Creameries quickly won over the hearts and taste buds of many. In 1962, Blue Bell Creameries became a member of NFIB. Blue Bell persevered this year through some very trying times. They fought hard, survived and their beloved ice cream products are making their way back in stores for all to enjoy. As you sit down with loved ones to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal, being thankful will be on your mind as well as that Pumpkin, Pecan or Cherry Pie. Can you imagine not having a scoop of ice cream to top off your Thanksgiving Dessert? We can’t!
Not only are we thankful that Blue Bell Ice Cream will be back in time for some of our Thanksgiving tables, we are very thankful for Blue Bell’s abundant support and loyalty to our organization. This November we say THANKS Blue Bell Creameries for being an NFIB member for 53 years and for GIVING us sweet desserts to enrich our Thanksgiving Feasts.
