LINCOLN, Neb., Jan. 15, 2019—The following comment on Gov. Pete Ricketts’ State-of-the-State Address this morning was issued by Bob Hallstrom, Nebraska state director for the National Federation of Independent Business.
“Nebraska’s small businesses are delighted that Gov. Pete Ricketts has made cutting regulatory red tape and tax relief two of his four ‘pillars of growth.’ Governors and legislatures across the country have come to a fork in the road. Do they adopt state policies that piggyback on the historically hot small-business economy created primarily by Washington’s reduction in federal regulations, coupled with passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, or do they start applying the breaks to that expanding Main Street economy by adopting new taxes and increasing spending? We’re glad to see our governor choosing the former course for Nebraska. It means small-business owners can be a little more assured that it’s safe to consider expanding their enterprise, hiring a new employee, and giving raises to the ones they already have.”
