NFIB State Executive Director Bill Herrle joined Florida Economic Opportunity Secretary Dane Eagle and others at a news conference today in Tallahassee to announce “Return to Work,” an initiative aimed at encouraging people to reenter the workforce and helping small businesses and other employers fill vacant positions.
Herrle said a record 44% of small business owners nationwide report job openings they’re unable to fill despite offering higher wages.
“It’s becoming a true, genuine crisis, putting the small business owner in the worst of circumstances where they feel like they have to turn away customers” because they don’t have enough workers.
In a statement, Herrle thanked Governor DeSantis for “recognizing that finding workers is the biggest challenge facing small business owners right now. Sometimes, it feels like owners are competing with their own tax dollars to attract candidates. Hopefully, this will encourage people to reenter the workforce.”
