UPDATE: Senate Passes Bill Prohibiting Local Employer Mandates

Date: February 16, 2022

Updated Thursday, 11:58 a.m.

NFIB State Director Nathan Humphrey released the following statement today following Senate approval of Senate Bill 331, legislation that would preempt local governments from enacting their own wage and labor mandates on employers. The bill passed on a vote of 31-21:

“Main Street doesn’t have the time or the resources to sort out a confusing and contradictory patchwork of local mandates that go beyond what the state already requires. That’s especially true now as small businesses are dealing with a host of problems from the pandemic to labor and supply chain issues to inflation.

“On behalf of our small business members, I want to thank the Senate for passing Senator Albers’s bill, and we hope the House does the same. Small business is the backbone of our economy, and it’s essential that our elected leaders do everything they can to create a level playing field that helps them succeed.”
