LISTEN: NFIB Provides a Small Business Report for Wake Up Mid Missouri

In a conversation with Wake Up Mid-Missouri, NFIB State Director Brad Jones highlighted the findings of the latest Small Business Economic Trends (SBET) report, which saw Main Street’s uncertainty reach an all-time high.

Discussing the labor market, Jones said:

“Almost 60 percent of the small business folks in September tried to hire people. As many as 52 percent of them said, ‘We tried, but we didn’t find any qualified applicants for the job.’ It’s kind of a two-edged sword. One, maybe it’s getting easier to hire based on the fact that there may be more applicants in the pool. But just because there are more folks out there looking for a job, doesn’t necessarily mean it is the job that our small business owners need them to do.”
