NFIB Commends Congress for Certifying Health Care Costs
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 22,
2014 — National Federation of Independent
Business (NFIB) Tennessee State Director
Jim Brown made the following statement in response to today’s introduction
of the Certify It Act of 2014:
“When the
White House announced it was granting the IRS sweeping power to certify an employer’s hiring practices,
small businesses were outraged,” said Brown.
“By telling employers they cannot make business decisions without consent of
the IRS, many cannot plan for the future and are reassessing their entire operating
plans. It’s clear the Administration is disconnected from the reality of
running a small business by mandating employers to certify they’re not
decreasing hours or employment as a result of the misnamed Affordable Care Act.
“Much as
the Administration believes small firms should adhere to this cumbersome,
harmful requirement, the Certify It Act of 2014 takes a vastly
different approach, requiring the government to demonstrate the law has not had
a negative impact on small business employment and health insurance costs. We
commend Senator Alexander and Representatives Fincher and Black for serving as
a check to this unilateral affront to employers.”
The Certify It Act of 2014
would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to annually study and
certify the negative impact the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(Obamacare) will have on small business jobs and health insurance premiums. If
GAO certifies that Obamacare is negatively impacting businesses, the costly and
burdensome employer mandate would be delayed for an additional year.
