New York City Mayor Eric Adams Announces Decision to Keep Vaccine Mandate for Businesses

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who was sworn into office on Jan. 1, 2022, announced that the existing private-sector vaccine mandate will remain in effect under his administration. The vaccine mandate was originally rolled out by former Mayor Bill de Blasio and took effect on Dec. 27th, 2021. Mayor Adams stressed that while the existing mandates will stay in place, the focus will be on compliance, not punishment. He announced that a dedicated unit will work with small businesses to help get employees vaccinated.

Under the vaccination requirement, all workers in New York City who perform in-person work or interact with the public in the course of business must show proof they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Workers will then have 45 days to show proof of their second dose (for Pfizer or Moderna vaccines).

Businesses may not allow any unvaccinated workers to come to their workplaces. A workplace is considered any location, including a vehicle, where workers are in the presence of at least one other person. For more information, click here.
