VT Senate Bill 5, a not-so-affordable heat act, is estimated to cost taxpayers at least $1.2 billion. This price tag equates to about a 70-cents per gallon tax on heating fuels. EVERYONE will pay and NO ONE will be spared, which means YOU will pay too. Guest Speaker: Matt Cota, Meadow Hill Consulting
Matt Cota, founder of Meadow Hill Consulting, a management and advocacy service provider for Vermont’s non-profit trade associations, is well versed on the impacts of S.5, regulation of greenhouse gas emissions. Mr. Cota has been helping businesses and organizations navigate the political and regulatory landscape in Vermont for more than 15 years. He is a former journalist with a master’s degree in public policy. He was elected to the South Burlington City Council in 2021, chairs the operations committee of the Green Mountain Transit Authority, and is the former Chair of the South Burlington Development Review Board. As the founding director of the Split the Ticket Fund, Cota has organized the delivery of more than 100,000 gallons of free heating fuel to Vermont’s neighbors in need.
